Speaking to PEOPLE at the opening night of her off-Broadway musical on July 10, Nettles shared her perspective on being part of the couple’s momentous occasion. “To be a part of even a small part of their story for me was super special because, obviously, these are two people who are at the absolute top of their industry, the top of their game, the top of their craft, the top of their artistry,” she said. “It’s such an important time in their lives. To be able to witness that very special moment, it’s beautiful.”

While Swift, 36, and Nettles have been admirers of each other for years and collaborated on a 2018 hit song together, the former television personality admits that receiving an invitation to the massive celebration surprised her. The secrecy surrounding the event meant very few details were confirmed in advance. “It all surprised me, because of course, no one knew anything. I guess people had — there were leaks here and there where people were guessing, but no one knew for sure where we were going until much closer to the time,” she explained.Ultimately, approximately 1,000 guests gathered at the iconic New York City arena to support the couple. The celebration featured both Swift and Kelce reading their vows from gold books, each spending about 20 minutes on the exchange. A comedy actor officiated the ceremony, while Swift’s brother Austin served as her man of honour and Kelce’s brother Jason acted as his best man.

Obviously throughout her history she and I have worked together before, and I have such an admiration for her and what she has done,” she stated. The vocalist offered particular praise for Swift’s songwriting abilities. “As a songwriter, you can’t touch her. She’s the biggest artist of all time, really of our generation,” Nettles added.
