Deepak Parambol recalls ‘Varavu’ shoot accident; says jeep overturned, ‘My head really should have hit’

Actor Deepak Parambol recently opened up about a dangerous accident that took place while filming ‘Varavu’, the action drama directed by Shaji Kailas and headlined by Joju George. The film hit theatres on July 16.In a recent interview with Red FM Malayalam, Deepak looked back at the incident and revealed that he escaped what could have been a serious injury during the shoot. The actor said the accident happened while filming an action sequence involving a moving jeep.

Deepak Parambol says the jeep overturned while taking a turn

Describing the incident, Deepak said he was hanging from the back of the jeep when the accident occurred. “The accident happened while we were filming one of the sequences. The jeep overturned. When I later watched the video, I realised that I had survived purely by luck. Otherwise, I could have been badly hit. I was hanging from the back of the jeep. While it was taking a turn, the vehicle overturned.”The actor explained that the footage made him realise how close he had come to sustaining a major injury. According to him, the vehicle overturned suddenly while negotiating a turn during the sequence.Deepak also revealed that none of the people involved suffered serious injuries, although a few sustained minor bruises. “No one suffered any serious injuries. There were a few minor injuries, but by God’s grace, nothing major happened. My head was actually supposed to hit the ground. When the jeep was overturning, it felt as if everything had suddenly gone into slow motion. At that moment, I jumped. I only ended up with minor cuts on my knee and hand. The jeep overturned at a high speed. At that instant, I don’t know… maybe it was just an instinct to save myself. Otherwise, my head really should have hit the ground.”The actor said he escaped with only minor injuries to his knee and hand. He added that instinct may have helped him react quickly enough to avoid a much more serious outcome.

‘Varavu’ explores rivalry in Kerala’s high ranges

‘Varavu’ is mounted on a large scale and completed filming over 98 days. Set in Kerala’s high ranges, the film revolves around conflict, survival and long-standing rivalries among plantation owners. The story unfolds against the backdrop of the plantation belt and focuses on the struggles and tensions within that world.The film marks the coming together of Joju George and director Shaji Kailas. Deepak Parambol also plays an important role in the film.

‘Varavu’ opens with a modest box office collection

According to a report by Filmibeat, ‘Varavu’ collected an estimated Rs 51 lakh gross in India on its opening day. The film also registered a decent advance booking performance before its theatrical release. According to figures shared by the Cine Times X page, Varavu sold around 10.31K tickets during its advance booking period. It added another 25.58K ticket sales on its opening day. This took the overall ticket sales to 35.89K.
